The initiative, named the Frontier Model Forum, aims to ensure the safe and responsible development of AI models, especially in an era where lawmakers across the world, including the U.S., are hustling to comprehend the rapidly expanding AI industry and implement appropriate safeguards.

The Forum will open its doors to organizations involved in developing and implementing frontier models, as long as they demonstrate a robust commitment to safety and express readiness to further the Forum's objectives, as per the joint statement released by the companies.

As part of the initiative, an advisory board will be constituted to guide the Forum's strategic goals and priorities.

While the tech industry advances its concerted effort to lay down safety protocols for AI, the U.S. has so far introduced voluntary guidelines. Amazon, Inflection, Meta, and the four companies spearheading the Forum, have collectively consented to these voluntary commitments proposed by the White House. These commitments aim to manage the potential risks associated with AI, as stated by the administration last week.

Meanwhile, in Congress, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) unveiled a preliminary framework for AI regulation and intends to conduct briefings with all senators last month. However, no concrete regulatory proposal has surfaced yet.
