● The Brief

Good morning. Meta had itself a day: shares jumped 12% as traders piled into options betting on the early success of Muse, the company's new AI personal assistant, which pulled in 730,000 downloads in its first five days of wide availability. The move didn't stay contained to one stock. It helped drag the S&P 500 to its best session since early August and pushed the Nasdaq to its first record close since June, with the Dow tacking on 366 points for good measure. Meta is now within striking distance of the all-time high it set last August, capping a 21% run since Muse was first unveiled. The company also used the moment to announce Petal, a new subsea cable meant to carry data across the Atlantic — a reminder that even a consumer AI product launch is really a story about infrastructure and capital commitments underneath it. Worth remembering: options volume running at more than four times normal tends to amplify moves in both directions, so today's rally says as much about positioning as it does about Muse's staying power. Below: today's five recent stories across markets, AI, policy, and security.
