Good morning. A weekend disclosure from a Chinese chipmaker most Americans had never heard of just wiped billions off the memory chip industry. ChangXin Memory Technologies, China's top memory maker, said it had made real progress on a new chip architecture that packs more data into less space, and the market reaction was immediate and brutal. Micron fell roughly 5% in premarket trading, SK Hynix plunged more than 10% in Seoul, and Samsung dropped 7.4%, with SanDisk, Seagate, and Western Digital all getting dragged down too. The selling spread well beyond Asia, hitting European chip equipment makers and reinforcing jitters that have been building around the broader AI infrastructure trade. What makes this different from routine chip-stock volatility is the source: a credible sign that China is closing a technological gap in memory that Western and Korean firms have long treated as a durable moat. That's the part worth sitting with, regardless of where the stocks land by Friday. Below: today's five recent stories across markets, AI, policy, and security.
