Nomi Health is on a Mission to Rebuild the U.S. Healthcare System

Founded in 2019, Nomi Health has rapidly emerged as one of the most disruptive forces in American healthcare. Based in Orem, Utah, the company was born out of a deeply personal encounter with the healthcare system by its founder, Mark Newman, and has grown into a solution that now touches over 30 million lives across the United States.

Mark Newman, Founder and CEO of Nomi Health, says he started the company after experiencing personal frustrations with the U.S. healthcare system.

At its core, Nomi Health challenges the status quo with a direct healthcare model that bypasses traditional insurance structures. By directly connecting employers, governments, and providers through its integrated infrastructure, encompassing analytics, payments, pharmacy management services, and a provider network; Nomi assists clients cut healthcare costs by up to 30% with no out-of-pocket expenses for members.

Tackling the Root Problems

Nomi Health’s strategy operates on the a fundamental belief that many of the challenges plaguing U.S. healthcare are not clinical—they're economic. As Newman recounts, the spark for Nomi came when a hospital offered him a 30% discount simply for paying cash upfront. That moment revealed a systemic issue: the real price of healthcare is significantly less than his company sponsored health plan.

To counteract this, Nomi built what it calls the “operating system for self-insured employers.” The platform integrates four key capabilities: analytics to understand spending, payment tools that ensure providers are paid-in-full in days, direct contracts for care delivery, and member-centric experiences that eliminate copays and deductibles.

Real-World Impact

Nomi Health's model is already producing results. In states like Michigan, employers working with Nomi report 15-40% reductions in healthcare costs compared to legacy insurance providers. At the same time, providers benefit from promptly getting paid in full, allowing them to focus on care rather than collections.

A Platform, Not a Point Solution

Unlike many health tech startups that tackle narrow issues, Nomi Health provides a comprehensive designed to overhaul the system entirely. The acquisitions of Artemis Health in 2021 and CerpassRx in 2023 strengthened its capabilities across analytics and pharmacy and reinforced its offering as a full-stack solution.

The company is targeting the $1 trillion self-insured market as its beachhead, with future plans to expand into Medicaid and Medicare.

Looking Ahead

As Newman often says, Nomi Health stands for action over inertia. Its team includes professionals who are “sick of the status quo” and motivated by personal experiences with a broken system. In this light, the company fosters a culture of urgency, ownership, and belief in what’s possible.

Whether through eliminating surprise bills, empowering providers, or bringing care to those left behind by legacy systems, Nomi Health is not just reforming healthcare — it’s rebuilding it from the ground up. And as the company continues to scale, its vision of a better, more affordable, and more accessible healthcare system is gaining traction far beyond its Utah roots.
