Taiwan Prohibits Use of DeepSeek AI in Government Departments Over Security Concerns

Staff

The Taiwanese government has officially prohibited the use of DeepSeek, an artificial intelligence service developed by Chinese startup DeepSeek, within all government departments citing significant security risks.

This decision, announced by Premier Cho Jung-tai, escalates previous advisories against the use of the technology.

Taiwan, a democracy, remains vigilant about integrating Chinese technology due to ongoing sovereignty disputes and security threats from Beijing.

Concerns heightened regarding potential censorship and the risk of sensitive data being transferred to mainland China, leading to this stringent governmental directive.

Just last Friday, Taiwan's digital ministry had advised against using DeepSeek but stopped short of an outright ban.
