● The Brief

Good morning. Google just handed Marvell a sweeping custom silicon deal that rattled Broadcom investors, sending its shares down 5% to their lowest close since early July. Marvell disclosed the partnership in a securities filing, describing work spanning custom chips tied to Google's TPU ecosystem, including memory and storage components, and it comes with $12.2 billion in stock warrants issued to Google. That matters because Broadcom has quietly been one of Google's most important hardware partners, co-designing TPUs since their earliest days and building a business model around being the essential outside vendor for a major cloud provider's AI ambitions. A crack in that relationship, even a partial one, raises real questions about how durable these hyperscaler-chipmaker partnerships actually are once a well-funded alternative shows up. The broader semiconductor market felt it too, with chip stocks broadly lower even as Marvell itself jumped nearly 7%. Below: today's five recent stories across markets, AI, policy, and security.
