Good morning. OpenAI just gave investors a number that doesn't match the hype: roughly $50 billion in annualized revenue as of late September, well below the $68 billion figure that circulated widely just weeks ago. The gap, it turns out, came down to accounting — the bigger number folded in gross revenue from OpenAI's partners, a comparison point meant to stack up against Anthropic. But markets don't do nuance well, and shares of Nvidia, Oracle, and CoreWeave all slid Thursday as the AI trade's central assumption — that demand is scaling faster than anyone can measure — took a visible hit. OpenAI's own growth numbers were still strong, with run rate up 77% overall and 107% in its enterprise business. The real story here isn't that OpenAI is struggling; it's that the entire AI infrastructure stack is now priced off numbers coming out of one private company, and small discrepancies in how those numbers are reported can move tens of billions in market value overnight. Below: today's five recent stories across markets, AI, policy, and security.
